Regenerative Farming

Feather 4
THE FARM

More than ever I feel that I am on the right path with our farm with the plantings of natives and using the bison to help restore our farm. With the use of the natives this will help to bring back healthy soils (instead of the chemicalized dirt that our farm has at present.)  I do believe our world’s climate is changing (more droughts, tornadoes, hurricanes, etc.) and at thirty that scares me.   I think all of us have to be a part of planting more natives- less lawns, less monocultures in our “farmed” fields, and more trees planted too. Farmers love to rip out those windbreakers that once protected “farmed” fields from soil erosion.  I would like to see our farm become a regenerative farm where the world (or at least our neighboring farms around us) can see that yes we can “feed the world,” but we have to do it in such a way that we don’t destroy the land while “feeding the world.”

I want to restore our farm’s ecosystem! Work with nature, not against it. I want to have our farm be a part of this, so I can be the next generation and caretaker of our land!  I feel industrial farming has taken our country in the wrong direction.  The chemicals and sprays have not only killed our bad pests, but the good ones too.  Industrial farming has left no place for nature or our kids to play in the fields.   I feel doing this is the most important task I will ever do in my life! Not everyone agrees with what I am trying to do with our farm, so I am hoping success will help convince people to understand that we can all do this and no we are not crazy!  The natives stay green when our pastures have turned brown after droughts (as ours’ did the last two summers with the lack of rain).  We have noticed that the butterflies, bees, birds, and wildlife are returning to the natives that we planted four years ago.  The dirt is slowly rebuilding and becoming soil again growing beautiful plants. The perfect underground world is forming!
